I need a RAID Adapter to do a RAID 1 setup on my production server.
I'm looking for a 2-channel controller for a 1U server with 2x SATA HDDs. The drives will be two Western Digital 74GB 8MB 10K RPM Raptor SATA drives. The setup is 64bit compatible.

Software RAID uses the CPU, but might not be too bad with modern CPU and RAID 1.

I would try and find the same kind of drive, if possible.

I don't see any restrictions on what the two hard drives need to be, but it probably makes the most sense to at least match the capacity, then perhaps either the cache size or the rpm. I would guess that the controller can be configured to handle the inconsistencies, though.

I don't know if you do need a hardware controller. Windows Server software includes a RAID software controller that supports levels 0, 1 and 5.

Another questions is.. does the hard drives have to be the exact same? For example: they have Raptor drives with 16mb now. Can I have two different drives on a RAID 1 setup?
